The CSA began a decade ago as an informal network of carsharing pioneers. The early adopters created an environmentally friendly alternative to private car ownership and put carsharing on the map in North America. Now with more than 45,000 shared cars worldwide serving more than 1.8 million members, the carsharing phenomenon has grown larger than anyone could have predicted in a very short time. The future looks bright as well. Navigant Research is predicting that 12 million people could be using carsharing services by 2020.
The CarSharing Association is changing too. We’ve expanded our membership to serve the needs of peer-to-peer, one-way, rideshare, bikeshare and “transportation network companies” in addition to classic, round-trip carsharing. The CSA offers networking opportunities through its conferences and events, provides industry news and information and guidance on industry best practices. The Association develops standards for self-regulation to protect the interest of consumers and meet the needs of the communities that carsharing serves.
The CarSharing Association advocates for public policy that recognizes the social and environmental benefits that shared vehicle mobility delivers. Working together with our partners, the CSA helps members reach their sustainability objectives, reduce traffic and congestion, and improve the quality of life for people in their communities by changing the way people think about personal mobility.
