UITP hosts 4th Combined Mobility Workshop

More than 80 attendees from 18 countries participated in the UITP’s 4th Combined Mobility Workshop held in Paris, France in early December.   The focus of the workshop was on the question of “Who should be the service integrator?” getting traditional public transit services aligned with the offerings of the emerging shared-use vehicle.  It was encouraging to see this high level of dialogue between public transit authorities and carsharing operators about how to best provide a seamless mobility experience for urban residents.

Increased co-operation and co-ordination between shared-use vehicle providers and public transit authorities is an opportunity that has not been well developed.  An example of an initiative that adds value would be to develop web-based trip planners to present combinations of public transit modes with shared car modes to give consumers more choice to complete their trips.
