Transit-Oriented Development Standard supports carsharing schemes

The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy has introduced a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Standard.  Part of the standard aims to increase mobility by regulating parking and road use.  Reduced parking prescribed in the standard encourages modal shift from cars to walking, cycling and public transit.  The standard awards high scores that limits off-street parking areas.  Parking provided for essential services parking (e.g. fire, ambulance, construction, maintenance, people with disabilities) is exempted from the calculation.  Parking provided for carsharing is also exempted.  For complete details on the standard see Section 8.1 Off-Street Parking.
